So I received my stuff on ONI and they are what I was dreaming of when I thought about collecting them when the first pics started releasing. They are a great looking army with very little 'codex creep' or imbalance that I could see.
Overall you have about 3 zombie infantry types. The basics are CC zombies and detonator zombies. Detonators can blow up in a 2cm radius. CC zombies are contagion zombies. Anything with contagion in the game, when it kills a model, that model immediately is replaced with a zombie. They are rather low armored models, though so there is a tradeoff.
Super zombies have a bit of ranged combat, and are just more elite zombies overall. And then there are zombie Tacarms. 3 types of them, one type has a laser gun on one hand and a zombie gun on the other. Zombie guns have the Contagion rule.
There are then ONI Korp, which are the steel troopers so to speak. Tote laser guns or sonic guns and have medics and mechanics. Normal guys for the most part.
Vehicles have no bases, so can slip in places where some other AFV's can't, but only have front firing arcs, so try to get behind them when you can. They have their damage boxes pretty smartly distributed. More frame than other AFV's as they are basically tanks, but less weapon and propulsion boxes.
Most are setup like Firetoads. Laser Gun, MG, etc. One weapon, but 2 shots.
The type 3 only has one weapon as well, but it's a 2 shot, one reroll weapon that does 17 damage with 3 SP per hit! And it can go Maser, which is indirect fire at 3cm, so those clumped up Fire Toads or Hekats will disappear.
The hero's are cool, but not overpowered. Samurai is zombie guy who fits well with a squad of Super Zombies. Priest has a Cog Force Field, so can give any unit he's with a 3+ cover save when they do Take Cover, even in the open.
And Bokur is a Red Blok merc sniper that rides Vlad, her own Type 3 AFV. She has a special rule that allows her to take an additional Type 3 and form a squad of 2 with them! Granted, it's like 1200 points to do that, but might be cool to see.
Overall, my first impression is a great solid army that isn't overpowered and does what it sets out to do. Distract with Zombies, while the rest of your troops do the hard hitting. Look forward to the release this winter. _________________ Golden Demon standard?? I'm lucky to paint Great Unclean One standard... |
